• Anonymous User Data: When you use our service without signing in, we use Firebase Authentication to create an anonymous user account. This assigns a unique, non-identifiable User ID (UID) to your session to track usage against our free daily limits. We do not collect personal information for anonymous users.
• Registered User Data: If you choose to sign in (e.g., via Google or Email Link), we collect your User ID (UID), email address, and display name as provided by Firebase Authentication.
• Analysis & Usage Data: For each analysis you perform, we log a record in our database. This record includes your UID, the type of analysis (text or image), the cost (in units), the result, and a timestamp. This helps us manage usage quotas and monitor service health.
• Optional Feedback Data: If you choose to provide feedback on an analysis, we will store the content you submitted (the text or image) along with the AI's reasoning and your feedback score. This data is stored securely and is used solely for the purpose of improving our AI models and service accuracy. We will never use this data for any other purpose.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

• To Provide and Maintain Our Service: To run the analysis, display results, and manage your session.
• To Manage Usage Limits: We use your User ID to track your daily usage against the free tier limits (anonymous and registered users have different limits).
• To Improve Our Service: We analyze aggregated, non-personal usage data to understand how our service is used. If you provide feedback, we use the submitted content and your feedback to train and improve the accuracy of our AI detection models.
• To Communicate With You: If you are a registered user, we may use your email address to send important service announcements, but we will not send marketing emails without your explicit consent.

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Firebase's suite of services (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Storage), which are managed by Google and adhere to high security standards. We do not store any text or images you analyze unless you explicitly submit them as feedback. All feedback data is access-restricted and used only for service improvement.

4. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following third-party services to operate AI or Not?:

• Firebase (by Google): Used for authentication, database (Firestore), and file storage. See the Google Privacy Policy.
• Google AI Platform (Genkit): Powers our core AI analysis. The content you submit for analysis is sent to Google's servers for processing but is not stored or used by Google for any other purpose.
• Echopulse: We use this third-party widget to collect user feedback and provide support. When you interact with the widget, some session data may be shared with Echopulse to help us understand your experience.

5. Chrome Extension

Our Chrome Extension requires certain permissions to function, all of which are used minimally and limited to anonymous collection of users' interaction with the extension. The extension does not track your browsing history. It only interacts with a page when you explicitly use its features (e.g., right-clicking selected text).

6. Your Rights and Choices

You can use our service anonymously without providing personal information. If you create an account, you can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us. You can also clear your local storage and cookies to reset anonymous session data.
